Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
The World Children's Choir was founded in 1990.
What is your primary product or service?
The World Children's Choir offers rehearsal and performance training in singing, choreography and African drumming; and performance opportunities for children ages four through eighteen.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
The artistic director was taught to sing by her mother at the age of six months. She has been singing ever since, received Bachelor of Arts Degree from Southeast Missouri State University, professional studies at The Juilliard School, and a Master of Music from the Catholic University of America; performed as an opera and oratorio solost; voice and Suzuki piano teacher; teacher trainer - all before founding the World Children's Choir in 1990 to teach children to sing with beauty, artistry and joy and promote international friendship.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
The artistic difference between World Children's Choir and other traditional children's choirs is that WCC develops the individual beauty of each child's voice; in traditional choirs the goal is for singers to blend their voices - for everyone to sound the same.
The second difference is that WCC singers learn universal values. hrough singing, WCC members explore musical content, and use music, art, and special activities to mediate cross-cultural differences and become peacemakers. The children learn how music and art expresses emotion, creates shared experiences, bridges differences, tells stories, produces beauty and enriches others.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
World Children's Choir rehearses and holds concerts in Arlington, Falls Church, and McLean. There are no plans to expand at this time.
